Internal Medicine Q & A
What is Internal medicine?
Internal medicine is a specialty of health care that covers a broad spectrum of adult illnesses, whether chronic, acute, or urgent. As a practitioner of Internal medicine, Dr. Veerula is known as an Internist. He completed his residency at Staten Island University Hospital, NYC and earned his board certification through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Some internal medicine physicians go on to specialize in specific medical conditions or bodily systems, such as cardiology or pulmonology. As a general internist, Dr. Veerula continues to cover the entire field of internal medicine, where he plays a key role in promoting good health and preventing disease.
Diagnosing and treating a full spectrum of diseases and health conditions, excelling in diagnosing difficult symptoms and treating patients who have a combination of different health problems are the benefits of having an internal medicine doctor.
What’s the difference between Internal medicine and Integrative medicine?
Internal medicine focuses exclusively on adults and uses conventional medical treatments, such as pharmaceutical therapies, to treat a condition. Internal medicine often addresses specific symptoms or one health concern. Integrative medicine, however, looks at the whole person and how your body, mind, and spirit contribute to the entirety of a person’s well-being.
Integrative medicine techniques may involve alternative strategies, such as IV nutrition therapy, lifestyle medicine and nutritional supplementation to support your well-being. Dr. Veerula offers both internal medicine and integrative medicine approaches when treating his patients, so you get the best of both specialties.
When would I need to see a General Internist?
Dr. Veerula can act as your primary care physician, providing sick visits, wellness exams, and urgent care. Other urgent needs, such as flu symptoms or diarrhea, are all in Dr. Veerula’s scope of practice.
If you have an urgent need that does not warrant an ER visit but can’t wait until tomorrow, contact our office and schedule a same-day visit.
Dr. Veerula also provides annual physicals to help keep tabs on your health. School and employment physicals are also available at all times.
He can also manage any chronic conditions you have, such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes. General internist training concentrates on frequently encountered medical problems like colds and headaches but also includes training and experience in medical specialties like:
- Endocrinology
- Rheumatology
- Neurology
- Psychiatry
- Dermatology
- Ophthalmology
- Gynecology
- Ear, nose, and throat
- Nephrology
Having expertise in all these different areas of medicine allows Dr. Veerula to consider the patient as a whole and provide comprehensive care that addresses all the factors impacting your health.
